Quick Overview

Red Thyme is often found in lice formulas for shampoo and hair rinses. For people with a slow digestive system, it can help to stimulate it, and will help with fatigue, memory, lethargic and depressed conditions. It is not to be used internally but can be used in gargles for sore throats and dental prevention and cooking to replace the dried seasoning.

Details

Thyme Essential Oil at Gritman is natural and has a high percentage of thymol. Thymol is a phenol, a powerful antiseptic, immune booster, and nervous system stimulant. This makes thyme a strong, hot oil and must be used with carriers. All thymes need to be used with care because of toxic phenols, carvacrol, and thymol. Very difficult to get Red thyme without some adulteration. I have heard all kinds of stories about how Red Thyme is produced: its gathered earlier in the year while white thyme is gathered later or vice versa; it is the first distillation and White Thyme is produced later in the distillation process; or Red thyme is aged White Thyme. It seems that commercial food processors want a dependable thyme scent. Most red thyme is controlled by stretching with natural or synthetic materials. You can tell it by the smell. True Thyme does not smell as strong.
