Passion Flower Maceration

This maceration is not available on the market. Tinctures are sometimes available. Passion flowers were discovered by missionaries sent to the new world to saved the natives. The missionaries thought the flowers symbolized the crucifixion. The fringed crown of the flower represented the crown of thorns worn by Christ. The three stigmas were the nails piercing the hands of feet of Christ. The five stamens were his wounds. The ten petals were for the apostles excluding Peter and Judas. The fruit of the passion flower is used to treat eyes. Unfortunately the flowers are not known for arousing the passions. Gritman macerations are made from plants growing in the Gritman Garden. We use Fractionated Coconut Oil as the solvent to absorb all the fat soluble properties of the plant. Macerations are essential oils but more as they have the fat soluble parts of the plant that are too large to be distilled. The scent is not as strong as the essential oil but the essential oil properties are still there and at the same time they bring with them their own carrier. The oil can be used straight from the bottle. When I first planted the passion vine in our garden, I never saw a bloom. I thought the vine was not doing well as I had heard that it just thrives in the South. A friend of mine told me that it was blooming all over the garden. I could not see it. What was going on?
