In Hawaii, there used to be groves of these trees, especially around sacred places. When the Christians came to the islands, the trees began to disappear by the thousands. In Madagascar, the tree is part of their heritage and still used. The nuts are called "Punnai" in Hawaii and their oil is called "Dilo". In Tahiti, the oil is called "Tarnanu".
