Balsam, Copaiba Essential Oil

Details

Copaiba Balsam Essential Oil is not a true balsam. The crude resin is used as a fixative in perfumes, soaps, cosmetics, detergents and in porcelain painting. The crude resin is pathologically extracted. The trees are drilled with holes and the crude resin is collected. One tree, after it has had holes driven into it, can yield 12 gallons of resin. Several other species that also yield essential oil: C. cerise, C. Guinness, C. lanadortfini, C. matii, C. multijuga, C. reticulata can be Copaibas. Crude balsam hardens with exposure to air and appears to cause some skin sensitivity.
