Citronella Essential Oil
Details
Citronella is a grass and has a history of medicinal use in India. Commercially it is found in insect repellents, candles, soaps, perfumes, detergents, and other household products. There is another citronella produced from Maha Pengiri citronella (C. winterianus) in Java, Vietnam, Africa, Argentina, Central America. It is used in soaps, perfumery, insect repellents, detergents and sanitary products. Since citronella essential oil is inexpensive, it is used to adulterate other essential oils such as melissa, verbena, and rose oil. Rose oil is imitated with lemongrass, geranium and citronella. Citronella is derived from mana grass native to Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka used to produce over 120 tons of citronella.
