HISTORY INFORMATION: Marigold has an ancient history. Medically used for skin complaints, menstrual irregularities, hemorrhoids, and poor eyesight. The petals were used in cooking as a saffron substitute. Used in perfumes.

GENERAL INFORMATION: It is usually found as an infused oil. The oil here is an absolute. Not to be confused with Tagetes, which is often called Marigold.

DESCRIPTION OF PLANT: An annual herb growing to 2 feet high with oval green leaves and bright orange or yellow daisy-like flowers.

COLOR RANGE: Dark greenish-brown.

CHEMICAL CONSTITUENTS: Class: Ester. Calendulin, triterpendiol ester, faradiol esters

PHYSICAL ACTIONS AND USES: Analgesic, antibiotic, antimicrobial, antirheumatic, vulnerary. Infused best known as a carrier. Used for skin conditions, (although an infused oil would be preferred over an absolute) and for perfumery. Spas are finding this a wonderful oil for massage, lotions, creams, antiwrinkle and scarring formulas.

MENTAL USES: I checked what I see with my inner guidance. I can express negatives without creating problems. It is as important to know what is wrong, so it can be fixed,as it is to know what is right. I speak honestly and openly.

EMOTIONAL USES: Clenched teeth, displeased but smiling, disappointed in others TO happy, take it as it comes, say what you mean, honest, direct, having great expectations, laughing at yourself.

Can indicate that you do not express what you feel. You may think that you cannot speak negatives. You may have tension or pain in your jaw or face. You may clench or grit your teeth when something you dislike happens and instead of letting others know, you put a smile on your feelings. The others in the space with you know something is wrong, the space is tense. It is time to speak the truth and confront whatever the fears are. It is time to stop being disappointed in yourself and others. It is time to laugh at yourself and the situation and have fun. Marigold can also indicate that you are very visual and if what you see conflicts with what you feel, you will tend to go with what you see. This can get you into trouble and you can be easily fooled. It is time to rely on your inner guidance especially good for the throat chakra and mental body. It helps to bring you clarity about what you want. Intention is supported by marigold so that it is easier to manifest in the world.
