HISTORY INFORMATION: The plant is one of the most extensively used herbals by indigenous as well as European populations in Southern Africa. It is used to treat coughs, colds, chills, croup, whooping cough, loss of appetite, dyspepsia, stomachache and gout. It is usually used in the form of either a decoction or an infusion; which is made into a syrup by adding sugar to treat bronchial troubles. The infusion is used to treat hemorrhoids and earaches. The Southern Sotho and Zulu tribes use it to treat measles, fevers and malaria.
GENERAL INFORMATION: Oil is somewhat rare in the US, but it is gaining popularity.
DESCRIPTION OF PLANT: A perennial herb growing to 6 feet, with silvery-green divided leaves producing inconspicuous flowers.
