HISTORY INFORMATION: The tree is also called Lignum vitae which means "tree of life". The tree contains rich supplies of fats and resins which make it hard and impervious to water. It was used for ornamental carving. It was medicinally used to treat syphilis and gout.
GENERAL INFORMATION: It has a tea rose scent and is used to adulterate rose oil. Guaiacum or Guaiac (Guaiacum officinale, G. sanctum) produces a resin or gum with similar properties, but the tree is a different species and is not to be confused with Guaiacwood. The oil is semi-solid at room temperature and may need to be heated or warmed to liquify. Used as a diagnosis reagent in blood test. Also used as a fixative in fragrances, a fragrance in soaps and cosmetics, and as a flavoring and antioxidant in food.
DESCRIPTION OF PLANT: An evergreen tropical tree growing to 12 feet high or perhaps as tall as 40 feet with leathery leaves and blue or purple flowers.

PHYSICAL ACTIONS AND USES: Anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, antirheumatic, antiseptic, aphrodisiac, astringent, balsamic, diaphoretic, diuretic, laxative, stimulant (nervous), tonifying (skin). Used for acne (oily), inflamed skin conditions, arthritis, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, water retention, hemorrhoids, pelvic congestion.
MENTAL USES: I am the source of my happiness. Looking outward for my happiness only pulls me off course. My life is full and rich.
EMOTIONAL USES: Struggling, frustrated, "life's a bitch and then you die," phony, unhappy, unloved TO waking up each morning with a smile, excited about life and what is happening, happy.
SPIRITUAL USES: Can indicate that you are ready to heal the hurt suffered as you loved others. You want more love in your life. You now realize that it is not about loving less, but loving more, despite whatever happens. Shutting down your heart center only hurts you and not them. Guaiacwood softens rigidity in the energy fields and floods the system with love of life. It refines the lower chakras to support the higher chakras. Trees have a wonderful way of bridging heaven and earth and allowing humans to fulfill their promise as the same bridge.
