HISTORY INFORMATION: Introduced to Europe in the 19th century as an ornamental tree, but it was soon realized that this was more than ornamental. It also seems to inhibit mosquitoes and it is now grown in areas where malaria is a problem. Lemon eucalyptus inhibits bacteria and virus and is invaluable in epidemics of infectious illnesses much more than the high cineole eucaplyptuses, as it helps the sufferer and protects the caregiver. Australian aborigines used it as an antiseptic and insect repellent.
GENERAL INFORMATION: Many aromatherapists do not differentiate between eucalypti and use them interchangeably. This Eucalyptus is very different than the others and contains no cineole or very little. Commercially used as a fragrance in soaps, detergents and perfumes. It is also cultivated for its citronellal. Wood is used for lumber.
DESCRIPTION OF PLANT: An evergreen tree growing to 170 feet with oval leaves when young, turning to narrow pointed leaves as it ages and a smooth dimpled bark blotched in gray, cream, and pink.
PARTS PROCESSED: Leaves and twigs.
PROCESSING METHODS: Steam distilled.
COLOR RANGE: Clear to pale yellow.
CHEMICAL CONSTITUENTS: Class: Aldehyde. Citronellal up to 95%, citronellol, geraniol, pinene.

PHYSICAL ACTIONS AND USES: Antidepressant, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic (pulmonary, urinary), antispasmodic, antiviral, bactericidal, calmative, deodorant, expectorant, febrifuge, fungicidal, insect repellent, insecticide, pectoral, purifying, sedative, tonic, vulnerary. Used for athlete's foot, fungal infections, dandruff, scores, asthma, laryngitis, sore throat, hypertension, recovery from heart attack, colds, fevers, infections, cystitis and vaginitis. Used to calm, uplift moods, revive, repel misquitoes, relieve muscle aches and pains and relieve fatigue.
MENTAL USES: As I cry, I allow sorrow to leave my body and happiness to enter. I am one with all things. All experiences have purpose and meaning.
EMOTIONAL USES: Sad, depressed, crying, feeling sorry for yourself TO uplifted, childlike, regain the trust, innocence and happiness of a child.
SPIRITUAL USES: Can indicate that there are childhood and/or karmic issues needing to be resolved. Lemon Eucalyptus heals and clears childhood/karmic issues. It reconnects you to the oneness of all things and rejuvenates the energy field as years/lives drop away. Look to other oils as to the issues of emotional or mental issues involved.
