HISTORY INFORMATION: Cultivated as an herb since 400BC. In cooking, used in breads and with fish and cucumbers. Medicinally used in the West and East for indigestion and colic. As a folk remedy, used by lactating mothers to increase milk flow and to put crying babies to sleep. In fact, mothers would rub the seed on their chest before they nursed. Used magically n purification ceremonies. Emperor Charlemagne insisted on having dill at his banquets to alleviate hiccoughs and flatulence from indigestion. Also used over the centuries as an ingredient in exotic love potions and aphrodisiacs.

GENERAL INFORMATION: The name dill comes from a Saxon word dylla meaning "to lull". Some aromatherapists believe that dill seed can be interchanged with caraway seed. As a flower essence, it refers to living in a stressful world without being pulled off track from your divine plan.

DESCRIPTION OF PLANT: An annual herb growing to 3 feet high with a smooth stem, feathery leaves and umbrels of yellowish flowers producing flat seeds.

PHYSICAL ACTIONS AND USES: Antibacterial, antispasmodic, aperitive, calmative, carminative, detersive, diaphoretic, digestive, disinfectant, diuretic, emmenagogue, galactagogue, laxative, parasiticide, resolvent, seductive, stomachic. Used for colic, dyspepsia, flatulence, indigestion, promoting milk flow in nursing mothers. Used to soothe the intestines, relieve flatulence and fermentation, calm, relax, promote restful sleep, relieve pain and repel insects.

MENTAL USES: I enjoy my work. Whatever I do brings me happiness.

EMOTIONAL USES: Feeling limited, downhearted, sad, working hard, not enjoying your work, pushing yourself or feeling pushed TO expansive, may still be a lot to do, but enjoy the doing; happy.

SPIRITUAL USES: Can indicate that you have lost your sense of having fun. You are working hard and not enjoying it. Dill lightens you or brings more light into your energy field so that you can enjoy what you are doing more. You may still do the same work, but your attitude is different. You do not take things so seriously. Before enlightenment, you carried water and chopped wood. After enlightenment, you carry water and chop wood. What changed is your attitude.
