HISTORY INFORMATION: There is little use of this oil in the West. In the East, it was used as an incense and an aphrodisiac. In India, they used it for ovarian and uterine cysts in the form of a douche. It is also used for menopausal women and in regulating and balancing menstruation. I also found a reference that said Davana was used in Atlantis for its spiritual value. Pallens is Latin and means "becoming pale". Hopefully this refers to the leaf of the plant and not to us, as we use this powerful oil. Davana could be the secret flavoring in Snapple.
GENERAL INFORMATION: The Artemisia's in general need to be handled with respect. They all come with warnings of some kind or another, and Davana is no exception. I found a reference that said Davana emitted a rainbow band of color to the clairvoyant eye, which is supposedly very rare.
DESCRIPTION OF PLANT: An annual herb growing to 18 inches high.
PARTS PROCESSED: Flowering plant, especially just before the flowers open.
PROCESSING METHODS: Steam distilled
COLOR RANGE: Reddish-orange.
CHEMICAL CONSTITUENTS: Class: Ketones, davanone, isodavanone, nordavanone, artemone, davana ether, acetoeugenol.

PHYSICAL ACTIONS AND USES: Anticatarrh, antiseptic, aphrodisiac, bactericidal, bacteriostatic, cicatrizant, mucolytic, nervine. Used for wound healing (pain relieving), gout, rough and dry skin, skin infections, coughs (especially with thick mucus), inducing menstruation, menopause, regulating and balancing menstruation, ovarian and uterine cysts. Used to ease anxiety, nervousness and anger.
MENTAL USES: I am ready to break thorough my limitations. I am willing to see what limits me. It's fun claiming my power. I like being me. I have talents to offer the world. I am having fun.
EMOTIONAL USES: Scared, angry, stressed, inadequate, not enough, afraid to go forward, future fears, afraid of the unknown and owning your power TO feeling powerful and competent, capable, optimistic about yourself and the future.
SPIRITUAL USES: Can indicate that you will or you are challenging your present beliefs. It is time for you to expand your ideas of life and self by making fun and laughing at yourself. Feeling good about who you are and what you do is a good thing, yet know that you can be more and do more. Your personal belief system creates levels of comfort and limitations in dealing with the world and yourself. Davana allows you to break through the boundaries you set for yourself and claim your power. Especially good for the sacral chakra and increasing or opening to more fun and pleasure in life.
APPLICATIONS: Bath, diffusor, douche, massage, mist spray.
WARNINGS\CONTRAINDICATIONS: High ketones so use with caution, no formal testing, avoid in pregnancy and with infants and children.
