HISTORY INFORMATION: This oil is primarily used in the East. There is little tradition for it in the West. The Egyptians used Cyperus papyrus, a close relative of Cypriol, to make papyrus, Egyptian paper. They also used cypriol to make cloth and fragrances.

GENERAL INFORMATION: Cypriol is a brand name given to this oil in India. We use it too so that by sound these oils are not confused with cypress. There is another cyperus oil (C. rotundus) or more commonly named nut-grass or coco-grass. Cypriol is part of a species of 600 plants growing in the tropics and subtropics.

DESCRIPTION OF PLANT: Cyperus is a sedge or grass growing to 16 feet high which produces flowers.

PARTS PROCESSED: Flowering plant with roots.

PROCESSING METHODS: Steam distilled.

COLOR RANGE: Golden yellow.

CHEMICAL CONSTITUENTS: Class: Sesquiterpene/Ketone. Cyperene upto 15%, rotundene upto 5%, patchoulenol, isopathcoul upto 6%

YIN\YANG: Yin/Yang

PHYSICAL ACTIONS AND USES: Decongestant, digestive tonic. Used for respiratory congestion, diarrhea and digestive upsets. Used to calm, improve circulation, promote a peaceful state of mind and restful sleep.

MENTAL USES: I am relaxed. I am at ease with myself and the world. I allow life to flow through me.

EMOTIONAL USES: Feeling stressed, tensed TO calm, relaxed, at ease.

SPIRITUAL USES: Can indicate that stress is building within the energy field producing tension in the body. You may feel that you want to be more creative, but you feel outside forces would stop it or would deny approval. Cypriol releases tension from the energy field promoting energy flow especially in the etheric and the physical body. It balances energy, especially energy of the elementals such as earth, fire, water, and air. Could indicate the presence of a miasm, caught elemental energies in the field.

APPLICATIONS: Aroma lamp, bath, compress, gargle, inhaler, light bulb ring, massage, mist spray, perfume.

WARNINGS\CONTRAINDICATIONS: No formal testing, avoid in pregnancy and with infants and children, could be toxic because of ketone content.
