HISTORY INFORMATION: In the East, cornmint is used like peppermint.
GENERAL INFORMATION: This plant is often confused with peppermint. Except for the United States, cornmint is used interchangeably with peppermint. By law, cornmint cannot be called peppermint in the USA, which is the world's largest peppermint producer. At room temperature cornmint solidifies because of its high menthol content. The menthol is removed for commercial uses and the remaining oil is often sold as peppermint oil. Cornmint has naturalized in the United States. Menthol from this plant is used by the tobacco industry.
DESCRIPTION OF PLANT: A perennial mint growing to 2 feet with upper lance-shaped leaves smaller than the lower, rounded leaves producing whorls of lavender flowers.

PHYSICAL ACTIONS AND USES: Anesthetic, antimicrobial, antiseptic, antispasmodic, carminative, cytotoxic, digestive, expectorant, stimulant, stomachic. Used for acne, sunburn, ringworm, scabies, relieving eczema, itching, removing blackheads, sinusitis, sore throat, muscle aches and pain, hypertension, colds, flu, fevers, colic, vomiting, kidney and gall bladder tonic, discourages milk flow in nursing mothers, fainting, shock, neuralgia, mental exhaustion, depression.
MENTAL USES: I am part of a loving world. I ask for help when I need it, knowing that it is there for me. I am competent and those around me are competent.
EMOTIONAL USES: Feeling negative about self and world, fatigued, inferior, prideful TO I like myself, energized, competent.
SPIRITUAL USES: Can indicate that the negative ego is in charge of the personality. Cornmint can balance this out so that the negative and positive qualities of the ego can communicate, and the negative feelings and thoughts can be dealt with positively. Therefore, it clears negativity from the energy field releasing the negative ego's pain and empowering the positive ego.

WARNINGS\CONTRAINDICATIONS: Avoid contact with eyes, skin irritant, avoid with infants as could cause spasm of glottis and with children under two as peppermint could shock their system with cold
