HISTORY INFORMATION: Several Asian cultures use citronella for its medicinal value in reducing fevers, eliminating intestinal parasites, relieving digestive and menstrual problems, stimulating the system and repelling insects especially mosquitoes.
GENERAL INFORMATION: There is another citronella produced from Maha Pengiri citronella (C. winterianus) in Java, Vietnam, Africa, Argentina, Central America. It is used in soaps, perfumery, insect repellents, detergents and sanitary products. Since the oil is inexpensive, it is used to adulterate other essential oils such as melissa, verbena, and rose oil. Rose oil is imitated with lemongrass, geranium and citronella. Citronella is derived from mana grass native to Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka used to produce over 120 tons of citronella.
DESCRIPTION OF PLANT: A tall, perennial, aromatic grass growing to 5 feet with large, coarse blades.

PHYSICAL ACTIONS AND USES: Antiseptic, antispasmodic, bactericidal, deodorant, diaphoretic, diuretic, emmenagogue, febrifuge, fungicidal, insecticide, stomachic, tonic, vermifuge. Used for perspiration, oily skin, insect repellent, cold, flu, minor infections, fatigue, headaches, to mental clearing and uplifting.
MENTAL USES: I am one with God. God is within me and all things. Life is good.
EMOTIONAL USES: Depressed, gloom and doom, alone, separate TO joy, light-hearted, well-being, just happy to be alive.
SPIRITUAL USES: Can indicate you take life too seriously. One of the indicators that you are spiritually connected is laughter, making fun and having fun.
