HISTORY INFORMATION: In ancient history, used as a fragrance oil.
GENERAL INFORMATION: Considered a rare essential oil. True cistus oil is steam distilled from dried flowering plants. An inferior cistus oil can also be made from the steam distillation of the leaves and branches. Labdanum, used as a fixative in quality perfumes, is made from the gum produced when the plant is immersed in boiling water. There is a flower essence called Rock Rose. It comes from a different plant, Helianthemum nummularium or H. canadense, which produces yellow flowers.
DESCRIPTION OF PLANT: A small evergreen bush growing to 10 feet high producing large beautiful white flowers.
PARTS PROCESSED: Leaves and branches of flowering plant. Leaves and branches. Crude labdanum.
PROCESSING METHODS: All steam distilled.
COLOR RANGE: Yellow to amber.

YIN\YANG: Yin/Yang
PHYSICAL ACTIONS AND USES: Anti-infectious, antibacterial, cicatrizant, antiarthritic, neurotonic. Used for mature skin, wrinkles, coughs, bronchitis and colds.
MENTAL USES: My male and female side act as one. I have balance and harmony in my life. There may be turbulence around me, but I am the eye of the storm.
EMOTIONAL USES: Emotional extremes. One moment everything is flourishing then the sky is falling--run for your life, projecting emotions (It is always someone else that is causing the problems or making you feel bad) TO very emotionally balanced, inner peace, emotionally balanced (if you are feeling bad, you look to yourself first).
SPIRITUAL USES: Can indicate you are beginning or are in a spiritual initiation. You have achieved a level of spiritual maturity. Cistus would indicate that you have learned your karmic lessons and are able to walk the middle road or are able to hold the middle point of opposing extremes, symbolized by the triangle. Cistus supports your not being distracted and taking extreme positions. It also indicates that you are able to see the good and bad without making a judgment of good or bad. Cistus leads to vast karmic learning as the person is able to walk a true middle road without being distracted. It balances the yin and yang within you, so it could appear yang at one time and yin at another depending on what you needed.
APPLICATIONS: Bath, inhaler, massage, mist spray.
WARNINGS\CONTRAINDICATIONS: No formal testing, appears to be nontoxic. Nonirritating, nonsensitizing, avoid in pregnancy and with infants and children.
