GENERAL INFORMATION: There is some confusion over whether this oil can be called Frangipani. It seems there is another oil, Plumeria alba, that is also called Frangipani. To add to the confusion, Champaca Wood or Guaiacwood (Bulnesia sarmiento) can also be called Champaca, and there is a Champaca Wood or leaf oil made from M. champaca. Also, the flowers can be white or yellow. We are not sure if the color of the flower makes a difference, but we have heard that the yellow flowering Champaca is like Jasmine. This oil can often be adulterated with Ylang Ylang. Our chemist says that this oil looks like a distilled mixture of true champaca, M. longifolia and ylang ylang. Some references also say that this oil does not exist at all. M. longifolia is said to have white flowers and the scent of basil. It can be added to the Champaca distilling process. Gunther says that this is oil is impossible to distill as it is destroyed in the distillation process. The manufacturer says that with the new distillation units they can distill the oil, and it is pure Champaca. You decide.
