HISTORY INFORMATION: The Greeks made a wine from celery to be given to victorious athletes. The Greeks also associated the plant with the moon and used it for a nervous system tonic. Romans would weave the leaves around their heads to prevent drunkenness and hangovers. It was also used as a diuretic. The French used the leaves in the famous seasoning called bouquets garnis. Celery and the leaves were made into an aphrodisiac with wine and sugar. It was given to the bride and bridegroom daily, a week before the marriage. This aphrodisiac was also considered good for extending life, or living to an old age. Ayurvedic medicine uses celery to relieve water retention and indigestion.
GENERAL INFORMATION: This plant is not the one you buy in the grocery store, but a close relative. This plant does not stalk like the common celery, but grows more like a bush with small stalks radiating from the base. It can be used in cooking like celery. Celery oil is often found in foods, liqueurs, perfumes and soaps.
DESCRIPTION OF PLANT: Herb growing to 2 feet with grooved, fleshy, erect branches producing umbrel flower stalks with white flowers creating caraway-like seeds.

PHYSICAL ACTIONS AND USES: Anticatarrh, aphrodisiac, choleretic, anti-inflammatory, diuretic (strong), hepatic (liver) stimulant. Used for respiratory infections, spasmodic coughs, rheumatism, pain, liver and gall bladder, kidney stimulant and for fatigue.
MENTAL USES: I decide who I am and what I want. I am your equal. My world works for me and I work for my world.
EMOTIONAL USES: Confused, invalidated or needing validation, passive "you decide" TO softly assertive, self-confident, self-reliant, validating self.
SPIRITUAL USES: Can indicate that you have been too passive and allowed others to take advantage of you. Celery Leaves strengthens the intuitive and feminine side of yourself. There is great power in the intuitive; although it may not raise its voice, hit or pull a gun. Celery leaves support a quiet strength within you. APPLICATIONS: Do not use on sensitive or damaged skin. For bath, inhaler, massage and mist spray: this is a powerful detoxifier, so use with care.
