HISTORY INFORMATION: Atlas Cedarwood is said to come from the Lebanon cedar (a protected tree) of ancient times. This oil is reported to be one of the first oils distilled by the Egyptians, who used it in the mummification process, as a temple incense and for cosmetics and perfumery. The wood was thought to be indestructible and was used in building King Solomon's temple in Jerusalem, as well as for building palaces, mummy cases and furniture. The oil was an ingredient in mithridate, used for years as a poison antidote. In the East, it was used as an incense in temples and for medicine.

GENERAL INFORMATION: Cedar is a Semitic word meaning "the power of spiritual strength". While many oils claim to be cedars; Atlas Cedar is truly a cedar. Another true cedar on our list is Cedarwood, Himalayan (Cedrus deodora). Also used as a fixative in perfumes. In France, this oil can only be obtained from a pharmacist, as it is considered a neurotoxic and an abortive because of its ketones (especially the atlantone content). This is a good example of looking at an oil from its parts and not its whole. It seems that when you look at this oil in its whole form, it is safe.
