HISTORY INFORMATION: In 1886, Amyris' scientific name was changed because it was not a species of sandalwood. The wood used in fires was so saturated with oil that it burned very easily like candles or torches.
GENERAL INFORMATION: The wood is used to make furniture. It is a cheap substitute for sandalwood and is also used to adulterate sandalwood. It is used as a fixative in soaps and fragrances, and in liqueurs.A species of Amyris, (A. opobalsamum or Commiphora opobalsamum, there seems to be some confusion over this) is the source of the Balm of Mecca.
DESCRIPTION OF PLANT: A bushy tree growing to 60 feet with compound leaves and clusters of white flowers that produce edible black-bluish fruit.

PROCESSING METHODS: Steam distilled.
COLOR RANGE: Pale yellow.

PHYSICAL ACTIONS AND USES: Antiphlogistic, antiseptic, aphrodisiac, balsamic, expectorant, fixative, hypotensive and sedative. Used for lymphatic and veinous decongestant, a heart tonic and hemorrhoids. It also helps to deepen the breathing and loosens tight muscles.
MENTAL USES: Transitional time - time to reexamine your thoughts about life and yourself and see if you need to make any changes. It could also be time to move from tribal thinking to individual thinking or thinking for yourself.
EMOTIONAL USES: Feeling confused, scared, uncertainty about the future TO feeling calm, assured, connected with self, self confident, grounded.
SPIRITUAL USES: Can indicate you have done a good job working with your emotional and mental development. You are coming into your own and are ready to transition into a more powerful and responsible state of being. You know that you are the creator of your own reality. It can also indicate that you are in a major transitional stage of being on your own like leaving home for the first time, becoming a parent, changing jobs or losing a job, divorcing, etc. Amyris is expansive. Your energy body is becoming more light, and you are connecting with your true self and blending it with your personality.
